Is New York Among the Luckiest Powerball States?

They also can be achieved through sheer luck.
As a matter of fact, the July 10 Powerball drawing had a $650 million ($328.3 million cash option) jackpot up for grabs, making it the 10th largest jackpot in the game’s history and the 14th largest overall in U.S. history.
With National Lottery Day coming up on July 17, we decided to take a break New York online casinos coverage to look at the states that have had the most luck winning the Powerball.
For a cost of two dollars per play, Powerball is contested when you select five numbers between 1 and 69, then select one number between 1 and 26 for the red Powerball. You may choose your own numbers on a play slip or let the lottery terminal randomly pick your numbers for you.

Many States Luckier than New York
Surprisingly, New York, which began selling Powerball tickets on Jan. 31, 2010, ranks down in 10th place, tied with California and Kansas, with 12 wins apiece.

For comparison, neighbor Pennsylvania is tied with Wisconsin for fourth (19) and another neighbor, New Jersey, did not finish in the top 10.
The top three: Indiana (39), Missouri (31) and Minnesota (22).
The last time a New Yorker won a Powerball jackpot was almost four years ago. A North Evans resident (upstate) was the lone winner of an $80 million Powerball jackpot in September 2019.
After a player wins, the New York Lottery is required by law to withhold 24% of the winnings for federal taxes. On top of that, 8.82% go to state income taxes.
Powerball drawing days are Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m. ET, with the sale of tickets for each drawing ending an hour earlier at 9:59 p.m.
